Odenaang Sustainable Development Code
Sault Tribe Housing Authority (STHA)
North of 45 and SRP Design Studio are currently working with the STHA on a Sustainable Development Code for the 300 acre Odenaang site near Sault Ste Marie. This Code is being prepared to ensure that the principals of the Master Plan are adhered to. The Code, currently in draft stage, is Form-based, meaning it focuses on building form, public space and sustainability. This document is intended to serve as a model code for tribal organizations throughout the Upper Great Lakes Region.
Odenaang Development Plan
Sault Tribe Housing Authority (STHA)
In 2012, Patrick Coleman (while employed with another firm) was project manager and led a Master Plan/Design process for a 300 acre tract of land that the STHA had been working to develop for years. Sara Kirk of SRP Design Studio also worked on this project.
The new Master Plan identified new development patterns, higher densities, mixed use and a pedestrian focus for the site. Key elements of the plan are sustainable development practices and creating a livable community.
Urban Design Plan
City of Valdez, Alaska
Valdez, Alaska is the snowiest city in the USA. Teamed with the firm Design Alaska, Patrick Coleman led design charrettes and conceptual planning for visual enhancements and physical changes to the Valdez downtown public space, streetscapes and city gateways. Sara Kirk also worked on this fun and exciting project. A major project resulting from this project will be constructed in 2015 by the Alaska Department of Transportation.
Master Plan
City of Houghton, MI
Patrick Coleman (while employed with another firm) managed this Master Plan process, conducted public involvement workshops, and worked closely with the City of Houghton Planning Commission on the preparation of an outstanding plan document. The Plan includes Downtown and Recreation Plan elements, as well as addressed a number of other key issues in the City. The project was completed in 2013 and adopted by the Houghton City Planning Commission and City Council.
